He compellingly identifies how school improvement is the responsibility of everyone; administrators, teachers, parents, and even students have a big role to play in making our schools thriving places. In Learning Swarm, the focus gets placed on motivation. Students need it to effectively learn, as demonstrated by the learning formula introduced early in the book. The Motivational Level (ML) of the student multiplied by the Instructional Level (IL) equals the learning efficiency for a student in a classroom.

This simple formula illustrates the simple fact that we need kids to care more about school. Of course, it's not that simple. Students influence each other directly and through the overall school culture. Teachers, Administrators, and especially Parents all do have an influence though, and can work together to help students find joy, or at least satisfaction, in learning.

Learning Swarm is a guide to removing the barriers in the way of learning more than anything else. It helps all the stakeholders in education to be more understanding and empathetic towards each other, allowing for change that helps everyone.
